Post 40 – A Special Invitation For You
Dear Family and Friends
I have been thinking about our upcoming 188th Semiannual General Conference, I am excited to be able to watch conference. to have this wonderful opportunity to listen to our Prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, and members of the First Presidency and those of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Also, to hear from other General Authorities and General Officers of the Church.
I usually record the conference sessions so that I can watch them later on when it is quieter, and I can give them my full attention. When I watch, listen to, and read the conference talks after conference is long over I have found answers that I didn’t know that I was seeking😊 I have shared several talks from past general conferences in my posts, they contain so many spiritual gems of knowledge directly from the Lord for our learning.
I know that it is important to prepare yourself to be ready to hear what the speakers have to say. I was better at this in the past, but I am working on being better at it again😊 Throughout the years that I have been attending general conference it has been a struggle for me as I have always had – and still have little children around during that time and I don’t always have control of what is going on around me in the house while conference is on, but I always have it on and I listen the best that I can.
When my own children were little I tried to have little conference booklets that they could work on during conference to help keep them focused, but if their dad was doing something that interested them – they were distracted and most often would choose to be with their dad – he worked away from home a lot so they didn’t see him as often as they wanted to. So, when he was home they naturally wanted to be with him.
The General Women’s Meeting will be held on October 6th which for the first time is the Saturday evening session we invite all women, young women, and girls age eight and up to attend this meeting. and then the General sessions for all individuals and families will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 6 and 7,the broadcast schedule in available for members to view at www.events.lds.ord.
We are encouraged by our leaders to listen to, study, and apply the counsel given. For personal study, the messages will be available in the Gospel Library Mobile application, on www.LDS.org. you can watch the conference on your television, computer, tablet or even your cell phone --- you only neet the internet to do so. Also, you can find a local meeting house here:
https://www.lds.org/maps/meetinghouses/?cid=HP16FDM&lang=eng
I usually watch it on my television at home on BYUTV cable here in Kansas it is channel 374. I hope to be watching with each of you, I promise that watching the conference will be well worth your time and the effort that you put into being there will bring blessings into your life.
The President and his counselors receive their words directly from the Lord’s mouth and speak those words to our ears. What a wonderful thing the Lord has prepared for each of us – to uplift, guide and direct each of us, through His chosen servants here on the earth – that’s just how special we are to our loving Heavenly Father that He would take the time to prepare the speakers through the Holy Ghost to send messages that we each need ad can find as we attend general conference.
You can find our all of the information for your area and where to go to attend a live session or viewed on your television, your phone, I pad, or computer. However, wherever you watch doesn’t really matter – what matters is that you do watch it all and read and study the talks afterward, so you can apply the teachings into your lives to make them better.
So be sure to set your calendars, set your alarm, so you do not miss one minutes of this wonderful conference the Lord has prepared for us to teach us, to edify us, to uplift us, and to guide us through the months to come. It will go from ten am until noon and then begin again 2pm CMT
If you have never been to a General Conference please plan to attend at a location near you or online at https://www.lds.org/church/events/october-2018-general-conference?lang=eng&cid=HP_TU-18-9-2018_dPTH_fCNWSxLIDyL2-1_
Learning more about the General Authorities will help you
become more prepared to listen to General Conference, you can learn more about
them here: https://www.lds.org/church/leaders?lang=eng
When my children were little it was a difficult thing to
get the to sit still to watch general conference with me, as their dad was
generally watching football in the other room. And of course, the children
would rather be watching football with their dad than watching conference with mom,
so I usually lost out and ended up watching it with one or two children or alone.
Which is something that I still do today.
Even though there is plenty of family around during
conference, everybody else has their own thing to do. I invite and encourage
them to watch it with me as I am inviting and encouraging you --- to come and
partake of such goodness as you have never experienced before. You will be uplifted,
and you will feel the love of your Heavenly Father has for each of you. You
will know that He is watching over you and he has messages for you if you will
but come with the Spirit and your Faith and your mind and heart open and ready
to really listen, you will hear those things that will apply directly to your
circumstances.
As I said before, it is important for you to prepare yourself
for the conference. Here are a few things that I have done: Read from the Book
of Mormon every day. There is a power in the Book of Mormon:

Read the most recent talks from the last conference until
the conference. You can find them here: https://www.lds.org/general-conference?lang=eng
In your personal
prayers ask the Lord to prepare your heart and mind to hear what He is eager to
teach you. About who you are and who our Heavenly Father needs your to be. You can

I found a new youth conference notebook it says: “General
conference is a great way to get inspiration and guidance. You’ll have an even
better experience when you prepare in advance to receive personal revelation.
Start preparing! .”
“It’s hard to get answers when we don’t ask questions. So
let’s brainstorm! Think about what questions you have in your life. What do you
want to understand a little better? Write them down. Then record your answers
and impressions during conference”
” What
topics have you been thinking about? What would you like to hear during general
conference? Write down some topics or phrases that are interesting to you or
that you want to learn more about. During conference, pay attention to how they
are mentioned. It’s a great way to learn, and you’ll have a collection of
resources to use in the future.”
WE CAN PRAY TO OUR HEAVENLY FATHER AND RECEIVE GUIDANCE
AND DIRECTION, BE WARNED ABOUT DANGERS AND DISTRACTIONS, AND BE ENABLED TO
ACCOMPLISH THINGS WE SIMPLY COULD NOT DO ON OUR OWN.
President Russell M. Nelson
“Now that conference is finally here, listen for answers.
Write down promptings, look for promised blessings, and pay extra attention to
things you feel impressed to work on. Jot down quotes that inspire you, and
take note of those messages that really stick out to you.”
REVELATION IS A REALITY. IT COMES IN THE LORD’S WAY AND ACCORDING TO THE LORD’S TIMETABLE.

THEMES You Noticed during Conference
What stuck out to you the most? Write down some of these
themes, and think about what they mean personally for you and your life.
Note the Theme, who it was mentioned by, and what you
learned.
The youth conference notebook finishes with” Inspiration RECEIVED. (wHaT ArE YoU GoInG tO DO wItH iT?)” Now that conference has
wrapped up, what’s next? Did you feel inspired to change or do something
different in your life? Take some time to organize your thoughts, prepare a
plan, and then act on it.”
“After conference, take some time to review your notes.
Write down what you feel inspired to do
or make a list of goals you want to work on.”
“How did my testimony grow during this conference?”
I think the things that they have in the youth conference notebook can be used by any of us before, during, and after conference😊
