Post # 169 –February is National Cancer Prevention Month
Dear Family and Friends

As I was dressing for work this morning, I learned that today was World Cancer Day. When I heard about it, I wanted to share the information with all of you, but as time would have it and my lack of computer savvy. I was unable to get the message out to you sooner.

I had my post all ready, filled with information to share with all of you about the National Cancer Calendar for 2020, but when I went to double check what I had written before I posted it, all of the writing disappeared I never could figure out how to get back all of the information that I had written to you about the goings on for this worldwide event

I am sorry that I didn’t get this out to you sooner for the January things I am a little slow on the draw and I was too late to get this post out to you in time for today’s World Cancer Events, but I ran across this Cancer Awareness Calendar for this year so I thought I would share it with all of you.

So that you will be sure to know ahead of time what is coming up so that you too can be prepared for each event and show your support. I know that a lot of these things have local events associated with them—like the Women’s Health Week. In our neighboring town they have free screenings for women😊

Well, I will try to remember just what I had shared with you in the post that disappeared I do remember the sites for you to go to so that you can learn more about the World Cancer Day:

Why World Cancer Day is Important
1.   One-Third of the Most Common Cancers Can Be Prevented
There is a lot that can be done at an individual, community and policy level with the right strategies for cancer prevention. Taking the time to understand what you, your family and community can do to make a difference can have a huge impact on just one person.
2.   Cancer Does Have Warning Signs
For many cancers, there are warning signs and symptoms and the benefits of early detection are indisputable. As busy as you may be, taking time to get that check-up and speak with your doctor can help create awareness and peace of mind.
3.   Talking About Cancer Can Actually Help Everyone Heal
While cancer can be a difficult topic to address, particularly in some cultures and settings, dealing with the disease openly can improve outcomes at an individual, community and policy level. Knowing where to go for help and being part of a larger support network can help everyone feel part of the solution.

World Cancer Day 2020
World Cancer Day, every February 4, is the global uniting initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).
By raising worldwide awareness, improving education and catalyzing personal, collective, and government action, we're working together to reimagine a world where millions of preventable cancer deaths are saved and access to lifesaving cancer treatment and care is equal for all—no matter who you are or where you live.

I began my chemotherapy on June 1, 2015. Also, that the National Mammography day falls in the same month of my birth😊as well as it being Breast Cancer Awareness month! Just a few coincidences, right?

I know that this post is too late for this year’s world Cancer Day, but here is some information about it just for your information. Also, the future dates to put on your calendars each year.  It is always on February fourth each year. You might think that it would be easy to remember, but that is not necessarily the case for all of us😊
