Post # 192 -- A Special Message for Unsettling Times

Dear Family and Friends

I pray that each of you are healthy and well. I heard this morning on the radio the reminder that “We are not a nation under fear, we are a nation under God.” I thought it was a good reminder to share with each one of you as well😊 I also wanted to share with you this message that is a Supplement to the April 2020 Ensign magazine.

Although a lot of this information may seem to be directed to the members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I believe that there is quite a bit of information that can be applied to any one who chooses to read through ans to study the material😊

We have all been affected by the recent pandemic and other challenging events around the world. It’s understandable that these disruptions might prompt some feelings of frustration, anxiety, and fear. But God has not abandoned us. He can help us move forward with faith.
Prepared for Perilous Times
“Wherefore, I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him commandments” (Doctrine and Covenants 1:17).

That pattern of guiding revelation continues today. The Lord has been preparing us for events such as these through modern prophets, including our current leader, President Russell M. Nelson.
“We are living in a remarkable age when we constantly see the hand of the Lord in the lives of His children,” the prophet recently testified in an online video. “Our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, know us, love us, and are watching over us.” https://www.facebook.com/russell.m.nelson/videos/199840471336927/

These challenges give us an opportunity to apply what we have learned about home-centered gospel worship. With a ministering heart, we can reach out in compassion to those around us.
Peace in Christ
Through it all, the Lord offers us a peace more powerful than panic.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:27).
Below are resources that we hope will help you navigate today’s hardships. Know that you are loved. As children of God, we will get through this challenge together.
I know that we can find peace in times of great peril and uncertainty. The only way we can find this peace of which I speak is through The Atonement of Jesus Christ. He gives us a peace that we can gain in no other way😊 Once o have this peace in your life you will never want to go without it!!!
Questions and Answers
1. Where can I find the latest guidelines about Church activities?
The Church home page (ChurchofJesusChrist.org) will be regularly updated with information about Sunday meetings and other Church activities. For example, the First Presidency has asked bishops and stake presidents to determine together how to make the sacrament available to members at least once a month.

The home page also features comforting messages that you might consider using to spread hope to those around you. Remember that your most valuable resource is the Holy Ghost, who can give you personal revelation about helping the people you lead.

Go to the “Messages of Hope and Comfort” section below for a list of articles about grief, accepting the Lord’s will, helping children cope, and other comforting messages you could share.

2. How can I minister to others safely during this time?
For those who live with loved ones, some of the most valuable ministering can be done within the walls of our own homes.

Suggestions for helping youth and children can be found at the end of this article. For connecting with those outside of the home, technology gives us many options.

Call, text, or find other ways to reach out to those you care about. In addition to checking on their physical needs, think about what you can do to help them feel more connected and less isolated.

Leaders should also consider how technology could help them make sure the needs of each member are being met.
Messaging resources include the Member Tools app, Gospel Living app circles, and Leader and Clerk Resources.
Since June 2018, each Ensign has included a “Ministering Principles” article that you might find helpful. For example, the December 2018 article shares ideas for different ways to communicate to others that you care. Remember that praying for people by name is powerful.

3. What about general conference?
The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles have invited all of us to prepare for and participate in general conference.
Although Saints will not be physically gathering to the Conference Center or to meetinghouses on April 4–5, technology enables us to gather digitally and be united in spirit as we read, watch, and listen together.
This conference will help us remember and celebrate the First Vision, which happened 200 years ago, and the ongoing Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in these latter days.
For more information about preparing for and participating in conference, visit gc.ChurchofJesusChrist.org.

4. How can I best worship outside of Church meetings?

Saints around the world are using the scriptures, gospel music, Come, Follow Me, Church magazines, Sabbath.ChurchofJesusChrist.org, and other Church resources to fill their Sabbath days with worship. Some families have said these home-centered meetings are among the most spiritual experiences they’ve had as a family!

If you feel overwhelmed, don’t give up. It’s OK to keep things simplea song, scripture story, and short testimony can be a wonderful worship experience.

Messages of Hope and Comfort
With sobering news reports swirling around us, we need to take time to step away from the stress and nourish our souls. The articles below can invite the Spirit and put challenges into perspective. Let’s be especially mindful of what children and youth are experiencing today, and sensitive to the disruption and disappointments they are facing. As adults, it’s our job to give them the answers and help they need.

As we think about Jesus Christ during this Easter season, may we remember that He knows all of our pains, grief, and weaknesses. He loves us and is always with us.

I hope that some of this information has helped you to feel a little better about what is going on in the world all around us. It seems too strange to be real, nonetheless it is all too real and we must do our best to prevent this illness from taking any more lives if we possibly can, don’t you think???
Keep your focus upon the Savior Jesus Christ😊

Press Forward Print-16x20He will give you the peace that you seek --- if you ask for it and be diligent in your seeking. Remember those who seek shall find, those who ask shall be given it, those who knock, it shall be opened unto them. I know that it is not word for word, but I am certain you know that scripture of which I speak😊 here is where I found the verses that have the above mentioned words in them: Matthew 7:7
New Testament
¶ Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
New Testament
And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Book of Mormon
Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

this passage of scripture is expounded for us here: JST, Matthew 7:12–17. Compare Matthew 7:7–8

Jesus teaches His disciples that the Father gives revelation to all who ask.
12 Say unto them, Ask of God; ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
13 For everyone that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and unto him that knocketh, it shall be opened.
14 And then said his disciples unto him, They will say unto us, We ourselves are righteous, and need not that any man should teach us. God, we know, heard Moses and some of the prophets; but us he will not hear.
Free Printable15 And they will say, We have the law for our salvation, and that is sufficient for us.
16 Then Jesus answered, and said unto his disciples, Thus shall ye say unto them,
17 What man among you, having a son, and he shall be standing out, and shall say, Father, open thy house that I may come in and sup with thee, will not say, Come in, my son; for mine is thine, and thine is mine?

There is also a talk that was given at the 2009 general conference titled “Ask, Seek”, Knock by Russell M. Nelson - Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles

I pray that there is something within this post that has been beneficial to you and your family members.

Life with God is not immunity ftom difficulties, but peace in difficulties. - C.S. Lewis If you are like us, it is just about only family that you see these days. But if that is the only way that we can stop this virus from spreading, then this is a good thing. It is a great opportunity for us to spend some quality time with those we love😊
Remember there are wonderful things that you can do when you must stay at home and mostly indoors😊 here are some of the things that we have been doing: playing board games, building puzzles, popcorn and a movie, readathon – reading stories all day😊 cooking and baking activities; playing with playdough. Write a letter to grandparents or skype with them😊
Life is to be enjoyed! Do all we can to make happy moments and warm memories with those we love the most.
Hold your own Sunday meeting with your family – sing songs, share a talk, a scripture passage, a thought, say prayers. Learn something new.

Play pretend, act out your favorite story from the scriptures. Play prophet match game, have a sleepover in the living room, make a tent out of your bed, the kitchen table😊

Write and /or draw a story, have a puppet show, make toilet roller critters or characters from a story you read together😊 make your own individual pizza with flat bread or English muffins.

Study your scriptures with your family. There are some more ideas here: https://www.everydayfamily.com/slideshow/stuck-inside-check-30-fun-indoor-activities/

We do not necessarily need to stay indoors if it id a nice day, but our weather has been a bit crazy around here. Temperature up and down. Rain, sun, hail, frost, you know just a bit of everything😊

I think it is hailing outside right now as we speak😊 Please continue studying the Book of Mormon with me. Continue saying your prayers, be sure to pray for the world. This Thursday our local radio station is having a day of prayer for the world. They will have different ministers praying each hour of the day😊 until my next post stay safe and healthy and make it a good week!!!
