Alma 8–12 -- Jesus Christ Will Come to Redeem His People
Dear Family and Friends
town. We had one in our neighboring town just last night. Our
world is getting kind of crazy with all of this new aggression
going on with one another. It is so important that we love one
another as Jesus has taught us. He set the greatest example
of this during His earthly ministry.

During your study last week did you or your family members
and friends notice how your study has influenced the choices
that you or your family members and friends have made
during the week?
This could be a good topic for discussion as well as to make one
another aware of how studying the gospel and the Book of
Mormon each week can influence our choices and our decisions.
If we continue to study each week we will notice ourselves
changing for the better.
This next section comes to you directly from the Come, Follow

seem to fail—at least, we may not immediately see the outcomes we hope
for. At times we might feel a little like Alma when he preached the gospel in
Ammonihah—rejected, spit on, and cast out. Yet when an angel instructed
him to go back and try again, Alma courageously “returned speedily”
Alma food to eat and a place to stay, but He also prepared Amulek, who
became a fellow laborer, a fierce defender of the gospel, and a faithful friend.
When we face setbacks and disappointments as we serve in the Lord’s
kingdom, we can remember how God supported and led Alma, and we can
trust that God will support and lead us too, even in difficult circumstances.

Our efforts to share the gospel may require
persistence and patience.
I know that I am not the only one who finds it a little hard to
share the gospel with others. I am sure that there are many of
you out there in cyberspace who find it difficult as well. This is
especially true if you have ever felt rejected or ridiculed when
you have tried to share the gospel before.
This is exactly what happened to Alma. he was rejected when
he tried to share the gospel with other people. I believe that
we should follow Alma’s example. He is a good example of
trusting God and doing as the Spirit prompted him to do. He
was able to trust God and take courage that the Lord would
be with him.
Alma’s example might also help you or your family members and
friends to take courage and to trust the Lord to have His spirit
with you and with each one of them as they make the effort to
go out and share the gospel with others, just as Alma did:) of
course during this time of uncertainty in our world we have to
be creative.
and I believe that I have at least planted a seed or two that
has hopefully made someone’s life just a little bit better for
the hearing of it. I have also shared the gospel with each one
of you here through the pages of my life on my blog:) I have
shared the gospel through texts on my phone.
You may want to consider having a discussion with your family
members and friends with the following questions” What do we

What advice would we give to someone who tried to share the
gospel but was rejected? Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s counsel
below might help with this conversation.
Take a courageous stand.
Elder Jeffrey R. Holland gave the following encouragement to those who
are mistreated for sharing or defending the gospel:
“If you haven’t already, you will one day find yourself called upon to
defend your faith or perhaps even endure some personal abuse simply
because you are a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints. Such moments will require both courage and courtesy on your
part.“… You may wonder if it is worth it to take a courageous moral
stand in high school or to go on a mission only to have your most
cherished beliefs reviled or to strive against much in society that
sometimes ridicules a life of religious devotion. Yes, it is worth it. …
“Friends, especially my young friends, take heart. Pure Christlike love
flowing from true righteousness can change the world. …
“Be strong. Live the gospel faithfully even if others around you don’t
live it at all. Defend your beliefs with courtesy and with compassion,

Once we have received light and knowledge, once we have

accountable for the knowledge which we have received. We as
members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
will find a very serious warning within these verses that we
should pay close heed to.
This warning applies to all Church members! Once we have
received this light and knowledge we are expected to treasure
it, to nourish it, to liver it, and to share it , to use it to bless
the lives of others. You can review and examine this

You might want to turn your poster board sideways and write

If your family study group is small or you have young children
you might want to take a topic each day for discussion together.
After you have searched each topic you will want to write on
your poster board the truths that you find under each topic.
You may also want to write down the scripture reference with
each truth.
Once you have filled out all of the columns with the truths for
each topic then it is time for a discussion on what you have

Alma 12:31-32 Alma teaches us about the Fall, and how after
the Fall, God gave Adam and Eve commandments. However, He
did not give them commandments until after He had taught
them His plan.
Now it's time for questions: How does knowing about the plan
affect the way we see or feel about the commandments?
Maybe you could talk about some specific commandments; for
example, how does knowing about God’s plan help us keep the
Sabbath day holy or obey the law of chastity?

God’s plan is a plan of redemption.
Book of Mormon prophets used a variety of names to describe God’s plan
for His children, like the plan of salvation or the plan of happiness. In
Alma 11–12, Alma and Amulek referred to it as the plan of redemption.
As you read these chapters, ponder why the word “redemption” is used to
describe the plan. You could also write a short summary of what Alma and
Amulek taught about the following aspects of the plan.

how this was done.
I truly do love sharing with each one of you and i hope that
you are enjoying the things that I share with you in each of my
posts. My goal in sharing is ti inform you about different things,
to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with each one of you and of
course to uplift you and give you hope, especially during these
times of uncertainty and unrest,
Please remember to pray, to study your scriptures, to continue
learning from the Book of Mormon and remember to have family
home evenings each week with your family. Hold on to your faith
and your hope in Christ. He is the only one we can turn to for
peace. He is our light at the end of the tunnel.
Remember to pray before during and after your scripture study.
Share what works for you with your family members and friends
so that they too may develop their own patterns of scripture
study. Allow your children to read from the scriptures and help
them ads they need your help. Be patient with them and
encourage them along.
It is important to instill in your children and those children with
whom you have an influence to pray, to study the scriptures --
to love the scriptures, at a young age. But equally important is
to continue to encourage them in this love of learning about
their Savior in the scriptures as they grow to keep that love of
learning alive and well.
As your children grow into teenagers it may become more
difficult to keep them on task as there are so many things going
on inside of them and they need to know where they can turn to
for peace. For direction in their life, where can they turn for
help. They need to feel comfortable calling on their Heavenly
Father in prayer.
If they know where they can turn for help at any given moment
no matter where they are, no matter what time it is, no matter
what they need, they are more likely to turn to the one who has
been there to comfort them when no one else was with them.
When you, as their parent, couldn't be there with them. Until
