Post # 226 -- Walk With Christ -- Day Two -- Synagogue, Nazareth
Dear Family and Friends
Today our post will take us on our second day in our Walk With
Christ. Have you signed up to receive the emails? If you have
already received Day # 2, Good for you. Just keep on going
at your own pace. If you have not, then i am happy to be sharing
Day #2 with each of you. Remember that I will be a lot slower
than the emails.
You know that i have other things that i share with you in my
posts so it will take longer to get each day out to you. Also, if
you are not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints you can ask questions of the missionaries
who are available through the website where the emails
come from.
If you remember a few posts back i shared Day One with you?
So our Walk With Christ began in the Judean Desert and what
was our invitation? Who remembers? What principle were we
asked to live from Day # 1? Are you beginning to get a better
understanding of the joy and peace that only He can bring into
your life?
Were you able to find a place where you could be alone with
Christ? I am still working on it. With a household of ten it is
hard to manage quiet time, but I am still working on squeezing
a little bit more time away from everyone to spend time with
Christ. Who knows, maybe I need to go to the desert as well,
but someone would probably follow:)
Remember, “even 15 minutes of thoughtful reflection can help
bring peace and purpose to your heart.'' Were you able to pull
the map up and take a look at where Jesus walked during His
earthly ministry? Were you able to read through the scriptures
for Day # 1? Do you remember the questions for you to ponder
from Day # 1?
If you have not had a chance to study Day # 1 -- Walk with
Christ please do check out my post # 223 before you go on
with us to Walk With Christ -- Day # 2. I hope that you found
the resources helpful that were also in the post with Day # 1.
Shall we move on into Walk With Christ -- Day # 2?
WALK WITH CHRIST -- DAY # 2
Synagogue, Nazareth
THE SETTING
In Nazareth, Jesus entered the synagogue on the Jewish Sabbath day
(Saturday) to read from the Old Testament. He chosse a passage that
specifically foretold His mission to “preach the gospel to the poor … heal the
brokenhearted … [and] preach deliverance to the captives.”
THE INVITATION
Over the next two days, open the Bible and find a passage that personally i
nspires you. If possible, find verses you’ve never read before, or take familiar
verses and look for a new perspective on their meaning.

Synagogue, Nazareth
Jesus Christ began His ministry close to home. The Bible teaches us that He
grew up in Nazareth, a relatively small town 65 miles north of Jerusalem. It was
there that He entered the Synagogue on the Jewish Sabbath day (Saturday).
During the service, He stood and read from the Book of Isaiah in the Old
Testament. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me … to preach the gospel to the
poor … heal the brokenhearted … [and] and preach deliverance to the captives.”
THE INVITATION
Find strength in the scriptures
Jesus Christ was able to find insight and guidance in the
scriptures, which provided clarity. We too can find answers and
strength as we search the scriptures. Over the next two days,
open the Bible and find a passage that personally inspires you
and guides you. If possible, try to find verses you’ve never read
before, or take familiar verses and look for a new perspective
on their meaning.
Questions to Ponder
Which Bible story inspires you the most? Which one have you
always wanted to learn about?
How can you apply what you’ve read to your own life and
experiences?
How can we make more time in our day to search the
scriptures for inspiration?
Scriptures about the word of God
If you are not already wearing the armour of God. What can
you and your family members and friends each do to wear the
armour of God?
I agree with the statement that the word of God is
powerful. How can you help your family members and
friends to feel the power that is within the word of God?
How are the words of Christ life? You and your family
members and friends can read and learn more about this
through the talk from the April 2004 general conference
which i have included in today’ post after the scripture
for Walk With Christ -- Day #2.
Below are three videos that you can watch for Day # 2.
What is the Bible?
A two-minute look at what's found in the Holy Book and why
it matters.
Jesus Declares He Is the Messiah
Jesus announces that He is the Messiah prophesied by Isaiah
but is rejected by His neighbors in Nazareth.
Sarit Catchatoorian on the Bible
He’s studied medicine, but it’s the stories of Jesus in the Bible
that have trained Sarit Catchatoorian in his life’s pursuit.
Luke 4:16–22
16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and,
as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day,
and stood up for to read.
17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias.
And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was
written,
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me
to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the
brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering
of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and
sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were
fastened on him.
21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled
in your ears.
22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words
which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this
Joseph's son?
Well, guys, here we are at the end of Walk With Christ
-- Day # 2. I hope and pray that this post has been
helpful; for you and your family members and friends.
I have found a talk for you and your family members
and friends to read through together:
The Words of Christ— Our Spiritual Liahona
W. Rolfe Kerr
Of the First Quorum of the Seventy
Let us in faith take the words of Christ into our minds and
into our hearts.
I feel it a sacred honor and a privilege to have joined with
members of the Church around the world in sustaining the First
Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets,
seers, and revelators. We humbly declare that they are “special
We testify that they “speak as they are moved upon by the Holy
Ghost. And whatsoever they shall speak when moved upon by
the Holy Ghost shall be scripture, shall be the will of the Lord,
shall be the mind of the Lord, shall be the word of the Lord,
shall be the voice of the Lord, and the power of God unto
mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same”
servants of the Lord speak the words of Christ.
The Savior said, “Search the scriptures; for … they are they
his trusted companion Timothy, saying, “All scripture is
given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”
(2 Tim. 3:16). We declare to the world that the Book of
Mormon is scripture, given by inspiration of God. It, too,
is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for
instruction in righteousness.
We fervently declare that the Book of Mormon is the word
of God, translated from ancient records by the gift and
power of God. This nncient record was written and
preserved to come forth in fulfillment pf prophecy as a
companion scripture to the Holy Bible, the two to be used
the Book of Mormon we are admonished to “feast upon the
words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell
We testify that the Book of Mormon is a second witness of t
he life and mission of the Savior. It is, indeed, “Another
Testament of Jesus Christ.” We declare that the Book of
Mormon contains the words of Christ.
Six hundred years before the birth of Christ, the Lord directed
the ancient prophet Lehi to leave Jerusalem with his family
and embark on a marvelous journey that would ultimately take
them across the many waters to a land that would become a
“promised land” to them.
The Book of Mormon is the scriptural record of the sojourn of
these people on the ancient American continent. It contains the
prophetic writings and revelations given to these people.
Included in these divine communications are many prophecies
of the Savior’s birth, His ministry, and His great atoning
sacrifice. They describe His ultimate Crucifixion and
Resurrection and foretell of His coming to that ancient
American civilization. We read in the Book of Mormon that
aft\His Resurrection and soon after His Ascension into
heaven, Jesus Christ did truly manifest Himself unto them.
Hear and feel with me the description of this marvelous
event in history:“And now it came to pass that there were a
great multitude gathered together. …
“And they were … conversing about this Jesus Christ, of
whom the sign had been given concerning his death.
“And … while they were thus conversing one with another,
they heard a voice as if it came out of heaven; and … they
understood not the voice which they heard; … it was not a
harsh voice, neither was it a loud voice; nevertheless, … it
being a small voice it did pierce them that did hear to the
center, insomuch that there was no part of their frame that
it did not cause to quake; yea, it did pierce them to the very
soul, and did cause their hearts to burn.
“And … again they heard the voice, and they understood it not.
“And again the third time they did hear the voice, and did open
their ears to hear it; and their eyes were towards the sound
thereof; and they did look steadfastly towards heaven, from
whence the sound came.
“And behold, the third time they did understand the voice which \
they heard; and it said unto them:
“Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom
I have glorified my name—hear ye him.
“And … as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards
heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven;
and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood
in the midst of them; …
“And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake
unto the people, saying:
“Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall
come into the world.
“And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have
drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me,
and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the
world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all
things from the beginning.
“And it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words
the whole multitude fell to the earth; for they remembered that
it had been prophesied among them that Christ should show
himself unto them after his ascension into heaven”
The Savior blessed those people and taught them His glorious
gospel just as He had done in Jerusalem. We are blessed to
have within the pages of the Book of Mormon His words,
even the very words of Christ, as spoken to that ancient
civilization.
After Lehi and his family were commanded to leave
Jerusalem, they were given a sacred instrument which
worked as a compass for them, showing them the course that
they should travel. We read that it worked only according to
their faith in God. Alma, a Book of Mormon prophet, told
his son Helaman that the compass was called “Liahona”
“And now, my son, I would that ye should understand that
these things are not without a shadow; for as our fathers
were slothful to give heed to this compass (now these things
were temporal) they did not prosper; even so it is with things
which are spiritual.“For behold, it is as easy to give heed to
the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course
to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this
compass, which would point unto them a straight course
to the promised land.
“And now I say, is there not a type in this thing? For just as
surely as this director did bring our fathers, by following its
course, to the promised land, shall the words of Christ, if
we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of
sorrow into a far better land of promise.“O my son, do not
let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way”
So we see, brethren and sisters, that the words of Christ can
be a personal Liahona for each of us, showing us the way.
Let us not be slothful becauseof the easiness of the way.
Let us in faith take the words of Christ into our minds and
into our hearts as they are recorded in sacred scripture and as
they are uttered by living prophets, seers, and revelators.
Let us with faith and diligence feast upon the words of Christ,
for the words of Christ will be our spiritual Liahona telling
us all things what we should do. Of this I bear solemn
testimony, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
I hope that this talk has cleared things up for you
and your family members and friends. Bow are you
able to discuss with your family members and
friends about how the words of Christ are life?
Do you remember from this talk what is to become
our Spiritual Liahona, to guide us through life’s
challenges, through all of the ups and downs.
Another thing for you and your family members
and friends to remember is that the Liahona
worked by the faith of those whom the Lord had
entrusted it with.
Therefore we must keep out faith in the Lord
Jesus Christ. We must read His words. Study
them so that we can come closer unto Him. that
we can learn of Him and His gospel and follow in
His ways. Let's make the scriptures, including the
Book of Mormon our personal Spiritual Liahona:)
Please remember who you are!!! Remember that
your Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ
are the only ones who can guide us back to our
heavenly home. I believe that if we follow Christ
and fully rely on Him we will have made the right
choice for our lives. Until my next post please
stay safe, and make it a good week!!!
